Died peacefully at Southampton Hospital on Sunday, May 26, 2024. Dave was 84 years old. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 59 years, Denise; and his daughters - Deanne (Kevin) of Ottawa, ON and Dana (Brad) of Sauble Beach, ON. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren - Ari of Toronto, ON and Heather (Martin) of Owen Sound, ON, and great grandson Markus; also nieces and nephews in Ontario and Manitoba.
Dave was born and raised in Owen Sound and spent summers of his teenage years near Parry Sound. He attended Wilfred Laurier University and then Teachers’ College followed by several years of teaching in Owen Sound, ON & Ladysmith, BC. His next career was with Owen Sound Community Living as Manager of ARC industries. Dave then became a Real Estate Broker and worked in Owen Sound and Saugeen Shores until his retirement. He served as President of the Board and Chair of multiple committees. In recognition of his service, he received a rare Honorary Life Award from the Grey Bruce Real Estate Association.
Dave was a volunteer in many capacities, being very community minded. His community service involvement included Big Brothers, Sydenham Sportsmen Club, softball coach, Friends of McGregor Point Prov Park, Habitat for Humanity, Saugeen Shores Parks & Trails and Saugeen Rail Trail Assoc. among others often serving in an executive capacity.
Dave also had many hobbies and loved to create and build. His building creations ranged from the mini houses and fairy doors for his beloved “Fairy Woods Trail”, renos for his family and even a whole 2-storey house built with his Dad’s help. His garden was always full of all kinds of flowers and vegetables, which he loved to share. Another important part of Dave’s life was the companionship and close friendships of his Hunt Club members.
Dave’s family would like to thank the staff at the Southampton Hospital for the outstanding care and compassion that they offered, especially Dr. Billings.
At Dave’s request, cremation has taken place, and no services will be held. As an expression of sympathy please share your memories and stories of Dave on the Tribute Wall below.
