William "Bill" Currie Obituary

Dad passed away peacefully at Brightshores, Owen Sound, at the age of 94. Devoted husband of 72 years to the love of his life, Sarah. He was a loving father to Sandra (Larry), Keith (Akiko) and Rob (Carrie) . Dad was the proud grandpa of Siobhan (Casey), Kealey, Elise (Mark), Ko (Lauren), and Chad (Kelly). He loved playing with his great-grandchildren; Milo, Ryker, Artemis, Caiden, Charlie, and Arlo and was everyone's biggest cheerleader. He often expressed how grateful he felt for his wonderful family. Bill was the son of Emily and Peter Currie and was predeceased by one brother, two sisters, Sarah's seven brothers and sisters and great-granddaughter, Ruby.  He is fondly remembered by sister-in-law, Margaret Currie, and his many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mum and Dad were married on Boxing Day, 1951, while dad was on leave from the Navy.  In 1957, he made the journey from Belfast to Toronto to seek out a better life for our family. He sold newspapers on Toronto street corners and eventually, through determination and hard work, secured a position with the Ministry of the Environment.  In 1970, he transferred to Owen Sound.  Dad retired from the Ministry when he turned 60 and he and mum enjoyed many winters with friends in Florida.  He was an avid golf and hockey fan and had a zest for life. Dad enjoyed volunteering. Even in his nineties he was driving people to appointments.  His was a long, well-lived life and he will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses, PSWs, Physios, and staff at Brightshores along with Drs. O'Flaherty, Chapman, and Doelman and family doctor, Ashley Fraser for the excellent care that dad received.

Cremation has taken place.  Spring interment at Leith Cemetery with a family gathering to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Brightshores Health System Owen Sound Foundation - CT Campaign.

These things I warmly wish for;

Someone to love, some work to do,

A bit o' sun, a bit o' cheer,

And a Guardian Angel always near.

(Irish saying that Dad carried with him.)
